I’m sure my friends wonder if my face is on a milk carton somewhere. Likewise, I can think that about them. Days turn into weeks, weeks into months, months into years and before you know it, we can lose touch with the people we did life with the most. To an extent, I can understand. We all have busy lives. Some of us are in different seasons of raising kids and others are traveling just to find different seasons. Whatever your reason may be, my heart aches when I think back on how close I used to be with certain people. You might feel the same. Maybe now that your kid is playing baseball instead of basketball, you don’t see your friends as frequently. Another friend may have decided to go to a church closer to home, but you so enjoyed seeing them every Sunday and talking. Some women have a new child at home and they are knee deep in survival mode and they are lucky enough to get a shower. We forget to respond to text messages, too busy to pick up the phone when they call and those days get longer and the weeks start to add up. Just like that, we lose touch.
Hebrews 13:16 says, “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”
I needed that gentle reminder today. Don’t be so busy, or stuck in your routine that you forget we are to show up for each other. I don’t mean at every friends baseball game, but I do mean we need to circle back around and just say, “hello, I haven’t forgot about you, friend!” A kind word, a scripture to let them know that even if you don’t have time to talk, you prayed over them in your car on the way to practice or carpool. Those ten seconds it takes to send an encouraging word, say hello, mail a card…goes a long way. Do we sacrifice our time in doing so? Sure! But God says He is pleased with such sacrifices and at the end of the day, I want to please the Lord. Encouraging and reconnecting with friends, is my added bonus.
