Day 6
“Iron sharpens Iron, and one man sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17
Someone unknowingly blessed me last night by a simple invitation. My sweet friend Michelle, who owns the local Christian bookstore in town called The Armory, invited me to sit at their table for a fundraiser to support Chosen For Life Ministries. Ann Voskamp was the guest speaker! I’ve always wanted to hear her in person. As I sat in a room filled with other men and women I couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of peace. To be surrounded by other God fearing women, is a thing to be treasured. Do you have Godly friendships? Someone you can call when you need counsel? Someone to point you to Jesus when you feel like you’re at the end of your rope? No? Well hold on friend, I’m tying a knot at the end of your rope and I’m pulling you to my table to sit. I’ve saved a chair just for you.
We are not merely existing in this life. We aren’t just going along, to get along. God wants us to be people of influence. He wants us to build friendships so we point the lost, those with no hope, the wanderers who have lost their way, to Jesus. I don’t know about you, but I want to leave people better than I found them. Sometimes I imagine God holding a list when I get to heaven and he’s reading these names off one by one. People start to emerge from behind Him and it’s all the people I talked to about Jesus to and then He looks at me and says, “you helped bring my word to them, and because of that, they are here.” Our work does not end when we get saved. It’s only beginning. God says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20. Our influence is everything. What and who we are influenced by can either lead us to the light or make us wanderers into a very dark ending. Today, sharpen someone. Love on a sister. Share what you are learning. I’m leaning into that last sentence, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” If that doesn’t bring you peace, sister, come talk to me. I’ve got the coffee waiting.
Prayer Prompts:
Pray your husband would use his influence to be a light to people.
Lord, I pray my husband would be a reflection of your love to those around him at work, with his friends and out in public. I pray he would use his influence for the betterment of your kingdom and lead, encourage and counsel responsibly. I pray that you would make him self aware of his actions, words and attitude in front of other people and in our home.
Pray your husband is not a stumbling stone to those around him.
Lord, your word says in Romans 14:13 “Therefore, let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.” I pray my husband would not be a hinderance or a stumbling block that gets in the way of another Christian walk. I pray you keep him from people, places and things that would cause temptation and hurt his testimony. I pray that when others see my husband, they would see Jesus in him and want what he has.
Pray your husband is a man who will help others get back on the right path.
Lord, I pray Proverbs 10:17 over my husband, “Whoever heeds instruction is on the path to life, but he who rejects reproof leads others astray.” Lord, I pray my husband never rejects your discipline or conviction you place upon him. I pray he would allow it to mold and shape his life according to your will. I pray that your correction in his life, will be what keeps others around him from going astray. I pray he would point the believer and the non believer always toward you. I pray that you would equip him with the right words at the right time when you want him to speak to a nonbeliever and they have an encounter with you Lord, through my husband being used as your vessel and he can lead them to salvation.
Challenge
Ask your husband if there’s a friend of his that he knows is lost. Tell him you are going to pray over his name and that God would give him an opportunity to talk to him about the Lord.
