“While you were doing all these things, declares the Lord, I spoke to you again and again, but you did not listen; I called you, but you did not answer.” Jeremiah 7:13
The message that was preached by Jeremiah to the Israelites, still needs to be preached today. To sum up chapter 7 the Jews would go to the temple and act one way, but outside the temple they would act another. The Lord was disappointed and frustrated with their disobedience. I hate to admit this, but can’t we all be this way sometimes? We come to church and hear the message but we walk out and quickly forget or unwilling to apply it to our own life. The Lord is trying to talk to us. Like Jeremiah warned Israel, our own pastors try to warn us. So often, I pray the Lord would speak to me and show me or tell me what to do when I’m needing answers. I have to wonder, how many times has he said the same thing to me, “I spoke to you again and again, but you did not listen.” Lord, forgive me. Today, let us be doers of the word, not just hearers (James 1:22-25). Receive what God is trying to say to you today and then go and apply it when you walk out those doors.
Prayer prompts:
Pray that your husband would soften his heart to receive the word today, too, BEFORE he walks through the doors.
Lord, I pray that mine and my husbands ears would be opened and our hearts would receive the word you have for us today. I pray we would be obedient to the instructions you give us and apply it in such a way to our lives that people see a visible change. I pray we would allow Your word to convict the areas of our life that need cleaning up.
Pray that your husbands ears would be sensitive to God’s voice.
Lord, in Ecclesiastes 7:5 it says, “It is better to heed the rebuke of a wise person than to listen to the song of fools.” I pray you give my husband discernment to know the difference between Satans lies and Your truth. I pray he surrounds himself with wise, Godly counsel. I pray you lead him to friendships that will strengthen his walk with you, Lord.
Challenge
Take your husband by the hand today and lead him to the alter and YOU pray over him. I know this can be intimidating if you are not used to it and you may not know what to pray over. Keep it simple or as deep as you’d like to go but allow him the precious moment of his wife praying over him in boldness. Pray over his week, you can pray the Lord grant him traveling mercies if he’s traveling, pray that he stays encouraged while at work, pray for new job opportunities, and/or simply thank the Lord for this man he has given you, thank him for being a good dad and husband, thank him for giving him a great work ethic and providing and let him know it does not go unnoticed. Thank him for leading your family in the ways of the Lord and being obedient to His Word. These are some ideas for you. See you at the alter!
