Mindlessly scrolling last night on the gram and stopped at a reel with these lyrics by Max McNown:
“I’m a little bit hurt but a lot more free
I ain’t saying that you never took a toll on me
For what it’s worth, I can finally see
That I’m a little bit hurt but a lot more free
Yeah, I’m a little bit hurt but a lot more free
It hit deep. Whether it’s a friendship or family member, there’s some relationships that NEED to hurt a little in order for us to let them go and not go back. The lyrics had me thinking that this songwriter is a Christian. I mean how else could someone understand that pain can set you free? After a little digging…I discovered he is in fact a Christian and the song itself was centered around forgiving as Jesus did and letting go of all the baggage that the pain was causing.
What’s in your baggage? Is it a friendship gone south? Unforgiveness? Is it the gentle chastisement from the Lord when we feel conviction? Some people want to hold onto the weight of sin out of comfort, out of familiarity and out of habit. Maybe you’ve never excercised your faith enough to “let go and let God,” and that scares you. What do you need to let go of to be set free?
Prayer prompts:
Pray for the relationships (personal and non-personal) that he needs to be set free from.
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. Galatians 5:13
Pray your husband put trust in the Lord that when He tells him that there’s something in his life that needs to go, that he will trust Him and be obedient to let it go.
Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:34-36
Pray for all the “things” that weighs his heart down.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
Challenge
Leave a piece of paper and pen in the bathroom with the question, “What’s been weighing on you? List it on this paper. We aren’t going to talk about it, I’m just going to pray over it for you.”
