Day 23
Did you know I can predict the future? I can predict that every time my husband leaves with an empty trailer, he will return with something on it! He has a passion for all things vintage. However, his infinity for a good find has brought some unexpected blessings to our family. My son has made friendships all over the country traveling with dad to swap meets. Mike has met some incredible people along the way who have stuck by him closer than others he’s known for a lifetime. Our road trips turned into great adventures and fun stories to share with our kids and their kids, kids one day. The previous owners wife sent me the sweetest message about how she loved seeing our pictures of our family riding in the car that brought them so much joy. Not the car itself, but the places and people it took them too. All the memories that came from it. I never thought of it that way. But I could relate because some of my fondest memories were sitting in a yellow and white Ford my grandfather owned. I loved it so much, that I bought it off marketplace myself! Just to have a piece of my childhood. If you aren’t connected to their passion, it’s hard to see it’s value.
It brings me to this thought. Your husbands dreams, goals, hobbies and interests can be enjoyable for you too. His passions can lead to great destinations. His hobbies can create memories for you and your kids that you will cherish for a lifetime. Those marketplace meetups could introduce you to a forever friend. However, as wives, we sometimes get stuck in resentment or allow the hobby to overtake our joy because we are looking at it wrong. We see it as a burden and not a blessing. Some hobbies can turn into providing for your family. His goals could help his sense of accomplishment as a man. A man who stays inspired to achieve is a good thing! I don’t know about you but I want my man to stay focused, sharp as a tack and finds a way to make it happen for himself rather than relying on someone else to do what he should be doing! (And I heard some ladies yelling, “Amen,” through the screen! Lol) That guitar he picked up, he could be singing your babies to sleep. That boat he wants to fish on, is giving your son fishing stories. The hobby of fixing things, turned into a full blown business that supports your family one day. Allow his dreams to take flight and be his number one cheerleader.
Prayer prompts:
Pray that your husband has a goals he sets for himself.
And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay. Habakkuk 2:2-3
Pray his hobbies would bring unexpected blessings to your family.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
Pray his aspirations are pleasing to the Lord.
The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. Proverbs 16:9
Pray his passions reduces his stress, brings him joy and keeps him motivated.
“But you, take courage! Do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded.” 2 Chronicles 15:7
Challenge:
Ask your husband what some of his personal goals are. Not related to work and family.
