Day 17
Today was one for the books! I checked Caden out of school to go fishing. It was my first time backing a boat trailer down a slip. I’m not sure how many times I heard, “turn right, no left!” It was not for the faint of heart. Mine and Cadens relationship was put to the test. I was no doubt as frustrated as he was. But we did it! We got it in the water….then it started taking on water and we soon looked like a scene from the titanic slowly sinking and us panicking trying to get the water out. We had three, sweet teenage souls pull up in their boat right at the same time as ours was going down and they offered to help. One kid was funny, commenting, “hey, you know it’s not supposed to take on water like that?” The other was quickly offering quick solutions to our problem and then the other was giving instructions and telling Caden how to identify the leaks the best and fix it. He instructed us to just get it back on the trailer as quickly as possible and let the water drain out as we pulled off. The last place you want to have a leaking boat, is in the water. Sounds like logical advice.
Driving off I couldn’t help but think that’s how I feel sometimes. I’ve got leaks and I’m taking on water. My vessel (my body) when it’s overtaken by things I shouldn’t be letting in, can’t be used for what it’s intended for. The only way to identify the areas I shouldn’t be consuming, is to remove myself from it (usually sin). As parents we can absorb and take on a little too much sometimes. We have to have a logical, sound mind, to recognize what is glorifying God and what isn’t. What are we letting in and why? Are we seeking the “quick fix” to plug the leak or are we seeking permanent deliverance from it to fix it once and for all? Are we listening to people who offer the temporary fixes or seeking wisdom and then following it? There was a lesson here in the midst of the panic. Temporary fixes still produce slow leaks and soon you’ll be drowning if you aren’t careful. Check your vessel, friends!
Prayer Prompts
Pray you and your husband completely remove yourself from anything that may not glorify God.
“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Lord, we’ve been taking on water slowly drowning in sin. Help us both to honor you with what our mind focuses on, what our eyes look at, what our ears are listening to and what we consume. I don’t want temporary solutions. I want a touch from you, Lord. The only healing touch that can fix the parts of me, and the parts of my husband that has allowed a slow leak. We want to glorify you with every choice we make.
Pray your husband will purge sinful desires and his body will be used as a vessel to do the Lords work.
“If a man therefore purge himself from (sins), he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work” (2 Timothy 2:20-21)
Lord, your word says our bodies should be a living sacrifice to you. For us to use to honor, sanctify and used for every good work. Do that work in me! Do that work in my husband. Keep cleansing us day by day so that our earthly vessels are not tainted by the world.
Challenge
When you crawl in bed tonight, put your hand on your husbands arm and just pray over him. It can be in your head if you aren’t bold enough to say it out loud…we will get you to that point soon, friend 🙂
