“In my distress I prayed to the Lord, and the Lord answered me and set me free.” Psalm 118:5
Here we were on a Monday morning and Cash, my 4 year old going on 14, decided he needed to crawl into his “spaceship” (aka a metal laundry basket that has holes in it) and fly to the moon. Little did he know his noggin could fit through the slats but could not easily come back out. Obviously, the intended use is for laundry which at this point had been dumped all over the room. But since he likes to get himself into questionable predicaments, I had to see how this was going to play out. After a good five minutes of watching him struggle, I asked him, “would you like some help?” Of course, since he has it all figured out, he yelled out in frustration, “No! I don’t need help!” So, on my way I went and I had already come to the conclusion that we may, in fact, be walking into school with a laundry basket stuck over his head.
After he finally decided the basket had defeated him, he cried out, “Mom! Help me!” So, I gently pulled the wires apart so he could get his head out. He looked up smiling, “I did it! I’m free!” Chuckling to myself thinking…well, mom did it but you are free. Isn’t that just like us though? To try everything we can in our own power to get us out of our situation, a temptation, addictions we may struggle with or character flaws we know that need change. We try all the things before we go to the One who can truly set us free. Whether we literally get ourselves stuck in a situation we can’t get out of or we are bond by bitterness, anger, jealously, or fleshly desires. I pray we remember who we can call out to in our distress and remember the Lord has the keys that will set us free from whatever has us locked into sin.
Prayer Prompts:
Pray that your husband would call out to the Lord when he experiences hardships or stuck in a cycle of sin.
Lord, I pray that my husband would keep Psalm 118:5 close to his chest. I pray he would cry out to you during any hardship he may experience in his life, personal or business. I pray if he is struggling with any sin he has not dealt with, he would confess it to you and you would set him free of it, in Jesus name. I pray if he is dealing with anger, bitterness, rage, drug addiction, pornography, anything that is not of You, he will release it to you and he can walk in freedom from it.
Pray that he would have a healthy fear of the Lord.
Lord, I pray Proverbs 14:26 over my husband. Your word says, “In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, And His children will have a place of refuge.” Lord, I am praying that my husband has a reverence for you and he knows that it builds strong confidence. I want our house to be a place of refuge like the refuge we find in your loving arms. I know when we lack confidence it effects every area of our lives. Our marriage, work and homelife suffers. Give him the confidence to stand firm in your Word.
Pray that you don’t give up praying for your husband and your husband doesn’t give up seeking the Lord in prayer.
Lord, I pray that you increase my obiedience in praying for my husband. I pray that no matter the season we are in, no matter the mood I’m in, or if we are struggling, I would not stop praying for him. Likewise, I pray that my husband would humble himself to seek your word every day and to talk to you daily. James 5:16 says, “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, [b]fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” My husband is a righteous man after your heart. I pray we both confront our problems so we can lead our household in confidence. I pray, like your word says in Galations 6:9, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” Let us not grow weary praying because in due time, we will see the fruit of our prayers.
Challenge:
Send your husband your favorite picture of the two of you together. Write a little message that says something like, “I love this picture of us! I always have a good time with you!” or be flirty, “I don’t know who this hot guy is in this picture, but I would sure love to go on a date with him!”
